§ 10-6. Protected areas.

  • (a)

    Environmentally sensitive areas. The city shall protect with compatible land uses those areas which benefit communal well-being and promote natural beauty. The city has identified the following areas within this category: Hialeah Race Track, water wellfields and water bodies, parks, open spaces, green areas, and buffer zones that separate incompatible land uses.

    (b)

    Transportation corridors. The city shall protect with compatible land uses those areas surrounding the transportation corridors traversing the city. Buffer zones, expansion of pedestrian facilities and dedication of rights-of-way shall be encouraged.

    (c)

    Significant structures or sites. Hialeah Code chapter 46 entitled "Historical Preservation" sets forth the procedures and requirements in connection with the designation within the City of Hialeah of areas, places, buildings, structures, landscape features, archaeological sites and other improvements or physical features, as individual sites, districts or archaeological zones that are significant in the history, architecture, archaeology or culture of Hialeah and possess an integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship or association or possess characteristics specially described in Hialeah Code section 46-66(a)(1)—(5).
